Randy and Betty Markham grew their company with steadfast focus on their customers and community and by hiring leaders who shared their vision to serve.

Take Tom and Lois Darrow as examples. Tom started with Markham Enterprises in 1974 when the Okemos Mobil location included a two-bay service station. At the time, it was the largest station in the state with 16 fueling positions. Lois exemplified loyalty and honesty with every transaction as head cashier and Tom was a mechanic that soon earned the reputation, “there’s nothing he can’t fix.” In his unique way, Tom empowered people to be their best and even “MacGyvered” a solution for a customer who had suffered a stroke, enabling him to pump his own gas.

In addition to building their business, the Markhams gave back to their community. Randy served as the Okemos School Board President for four years and Betty was honored to receive the A. Geraldine Rapaport Volunteer of the Year Award from The Ingham County Democratic Party in 2006. Betty was active in the Lansing PFLAG Chapter and even ran for Ingham County Commissioner. Following Betty’s untimely passing in 2007, the legacy of serving customers, employees and the community continues throughout the entire Markham Team.

Since 2010, Denise Markham has led Markham Enterprises and Markham Oil as CEO. Having grown-up in the business, Denise and vice president, Mike Mitchell, both continue the customer-centric focus and examples set by the company founders. From suppliers and partners to employees and customers, they continue to lead their family-oriented business with passion, integrity and respect.
